A highly educated, experienced and credentialed wealth management advisor, Philippe has pursued a path of rigorous industry training throughout an impressive career that has spanned four decades and three generations of clients’ families he continues to serve today. Philippe is also a qualified Portfolio Manager who, in addition to providing traditional advice and guidance, can help clients pursue their objectives by building and managing his own personalized or defined strategies, which may incorporate individual stocks and bonds, Merrill model portfolios, and third-party investment strategies. When servicing clients through the firm’s Investment Advisory Program, a Portfolio Manager may manage his strategies on a discretionary basis. Since launching his financial services career in 1979, Philippe has worked at several leading institutions – as a Trust Investment Officer, Portfolio Manager, Analyst, and Financial Advisor. Philippe was invited to join Merrill Lynch Wealth Management in 2007 and brings clients a wealth of experience and perspectives. Having guided generations of clients through all types of market conditions, Philippe feels privileged to help clients take a long-term view on preserving and growing the wealth they’ve worked hard to accumulate. Outside of the office, Philippe enjoys hiking, cooking, nature, and spending time with his wife, Judith Crittenden (a prominent divorce attorney) at their mountain home in Mentone, Alabama. He and Judith reside in Birmingham. Active in the community, Philippe is a member of the Executive Committee of Leadership Birmingham, a long-time member of Birmingham Rotary Club, a former board member of Birmingham Aids Outreach (BAO), a former board member of Living in Limbo, and participates with the YWCA. Philippe is also involved in several smaller local arts and cultural organizations. Philippe “graduated twice” from Lehigh University, with a Bachelor’s degree and an MBA.
"I only work quietly and support what I believe in my heart. I have been a longtime supporter of the YW, along its mission of women’s rights and racial equality. I was born in Birmingham and grew up during the city’s difficult times during the Civil Rights movement. I was young, and at the time, could not understand nor comprehend the violence and hatred. Those events, as horrible as they were, shaped my beliefs going forward. I have and continue to be a champion of women’s rights a social equality. It’s in my soul. I cannot comprehend any other way. It’s part of my fabric and how I conduct my life professionally and personally." - Philippe Lathrop, Vice President and Wealth Management Advisor, Merrill Lynch
