For nearly two decades, Robert Earl Kelly has been at the forefront of construction in the South. In 1999, Mr. Kelly established Kelly Road Builders, which helped fill a niche in the road building industry. Now considered one of the largest road milling companies in the Southeast, Kelly Road Builders is also one of the premiere road paving operations. The company works to repair and replace roadways in Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and beyond.

In 2015, Mr. Kelly branched out, and began to build Kelly Natural Gas Pipeline. The company works with many projects associated with modernizing the natural gas pipelines throughout the Southeast. In its short three years, Kelly Natural Gas Pipeline has successfully completed numerous projects as it continues to grow its operations. Mr. Kelly has been instrumental in hiring key management and field personnel, which has resulted in great potential for growth in the industry. As with Kelly Road Builders, Mr. Kelly has initiated and maintained a customer-driven culture within Kelly Natural Gas Pipeline.

A native of Jackson, Mr. Kelly received his B.S. from Jackson State University and has remained heavily involved with supporting the university. He is the former Southeast Regional Vice President of the Jackson State University National Alumni Association, and former President of Jackson State University Birmingham Alumni Chapter. Mr. Kelly has been a resident of Birmingham, Ala., for more than 30 years. He is a proud graduate of the Leadership Birmingham Class of 2005. He is also a board member of the Birmingham Education Foundation, Miles College, BB&T Bank Local Advisory Board, and
the Birmingham Airport Authority.

Mr. Kelly has served numerous organizations throughout the community, including the Lawson State Community College Foundation and as Chair of Operations of New Birmingham (now REV Birmingham), and Chair of the African-American Business Council.

Mr. Kelly has been involved with several local civic activities, including serving as the Honorary Chairperson for the Miles College President’s Scholarship Ball, which raised more than $250,000 for student scholarships in 2010. He is also the founder of “Showtime at the Apollo — Birmingham Style,” an annual event that supports the local Sickle Cell Chapter of Birmingham. This event raised more than $1,000,000 in the first four years under his leadership, but more importantly has helped raise awareness of the Sickle Cell Disease.

He is married to the former Dee Monroe and has two daughters, Natalie and Whitley.

"As a society, we’ve been pushing for racial and gender equity for many years now. We’ve made strides, but there is considerably more work to be done to create communities, workplaces, and policies that remove systemic barriers and allow all people to reach their full potential. I am proud to be a YW ally to help support this important work and to be a champion of the YW’s critical mission." - Robert Kelly, Founder Kelly RoadBuilders, Kelly Natural Gas Pipeline, and Kelly Underground
